The College鈥檚 touchstones of Faith, Joy and Tradition were on full display at our Edmund Rice Assembly in early Term 2.

For the first time, SPC scarves were presented to over 200 Year 7 students by the Old Collegians鈥 Association.

The initiative aims to highlight the special bond between students and the College鈥檚 Old Collegian network.

In presenting the scarves to Year 7s on the day, Old Collegians鈥 Association president Dr Charles Flynn enjoyed the double delight of handing over a scarf to his great nephew Carlos Myers, a fifth-generation student of SPC.

Carlos鈥 family鈥檚 ties with SPC began over a century ago when Charles鈥 grandfather, Charles Flynn (senior), began his education as a day student in 1904 at the newly established 每日大赛网址首页进入.

Charles senior鈥檚 son John followed in his footsteps as a boarder in the late 1920s, followed in turn by John鈥檚 own three sons, Michael (SPC 1956-63), Charles (SPC 1971-73) and James (SPC 1977-78).

While Charles鈥 son Joseph attended in 2012-17, Charles鈥 sister Maureen married and the special SPC family tradition has continued through the Myers family, with her son Paul (SPC 1990-95) wearing the green, white and blue and brother David鈥檚 son Carlos, now attending.

Charles, who has commenced his fourth term as OCA president, described the scarf presentation as an important one.

鈥淚t is a really important way to give some meaning to those first-year boys, who are now part of the Old Collegians鈥 Association from Year 7,鈥 Charles said.

鈥淭he scarf is a recognition of that and continues the tradition of generations before them of wearing the green, white and blue and proudly calling themselves a Paddy boy.鈥
