We were very saddened to learn of the sudden passing of former beloved SPC teacher Peter Kerwan, who passed away on 2 February 2025 after a heart attack while on a walk.
Peter was aged 66.
Peter was a teacher for almost two decades, beginning his teaching career at 每日大赛网址首页进入 from 1981 to 1987, teaching mainly Year 10-12 students. He was also the Head of the Commence Department from 1986-87, and helped establish the school鈥檚 rugby program.
He was also believed to be one of the first to get married at the College鈥檚 Chapel, in December 1986, after gaining permission from the Cathedral Administrator. In those days, permission was sought to be allowed to marry elsewhere other than the Cathedral.
In 1988, Peter moved to Loreto, teaching economics and politics, until 1997.
He later was part of the Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education for 14 years in several executive roles before retiring at the end of 2020.
Peter was an exceptional teacher and educational leader in the wider Ballarat community for 40 years.
He was so respected that he was often invited back by the students themselves to SPC Class Reunion get-togethers.
Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education executive director Tom Sexton remembers Peter as the 鈥渆pitome of the fullness of life (and) always smiling鈥 in a tribute story in The Courier newspaper.
He was generous with his time for others and remembered for his warmth, encouragement and love for community, golf and the Collingwood Football Club.
Funeral prayers were held at St Alipius Catholic Church in Ballarat East on 14 February 2025.
We extend our deepest condolences to Peter鈥檚 wife Jacinta, daughters Stephanie and Rebecca and their extended families (Tom and James).
